What would you do if you won the lottery?
In this video, Powerball winner and podcast host Timothy Schultz reveals what to do if you win millions. If you win the jackpot, we hope this insider advice is useful!
WHAT TO DO IF YOU WIN MILLIONS:
1) Keep the ticket secure. If you win the lottery on a physical ticket, be very careful with it and keep it somewhere secure, such as a safety deposit box.
2) Try to keep calm. They say that winning the lottery is like being struck by lightning. This is very true because it can be shocking and very surreal.
3) Contact estate attorneys and financial advisors if you win big. Make sure that they are experienced and trustworthy.
4)Decide whether you’re going to claim the prize publicly or anonymously.
5) Understand the rules and deadlines involved in claiming a winning lottery ticket. Be sure to check your ticket before it expires! There are billions of dollars each year from lottery tickets that go unclaimed.
6) If you win the lottery in the USA, you may have the option to choose the cash, half right away option or the annuity, which pays the full prize of 29 years. Many lottery winners opt for the cash option because it can typically make more money in the long run by investing it.
7) If you want to help other people financially, it can be better to do that early on after winning. Be clear what you can afford and want to give early in hopes of avoiding people asking for money in the future.
8) Stay grounded. If you win the lottery, it doesn’t necessarily change who you are as a person. However, it oftentimes can magnify personalities.
9) Pursue what makes you happy.
